How do I prove an audio recording is real and not edited?

Keep the original file exactly as your phone or recorder saved it, and work from copies. Write down when, where and on what device it was made. Then get an independent review and a dated record of that original file, so anyone who doubts it can check the record instead of relying on your word.

Keep the original untouched

Write down the facts now

While your memory is fresh, note the date and time, the place, the device and app used, who was speaking, who else was present, and why you recorded it. Keep this note with the file.

Keep safe copies

Store copies in at least two separate places, such as your computer and a cloud account. Note the file name, size and date. Every copy should stay identical to the original.

Signs of editing you can listen for

The FBI warns that criminals now use AI-generated audio to impersonate public figures and family members (FBI, December 2024), which is exactly why a real recording benefits from a record made early.

How All Around REAL helps

All Around REAL is Your AI PI. A REAL QUICK audio review screens one recording of up to two minutes for synthetic speech and voice cloning. CASE and DOSSIER reviews combine audio with documents and images in one case, and DOSSIER covers up to four minutes. The optional voice-comparison add-on compares the recording with a known recording of the same person, with consent. Professional reviews document the time, source and method of the scan, and every completed review carries a REAL Check. A clean, unaccompanied voice gives the strongest result.
